I re-worked a design from an idea I found here on Thingiverse to fit my needs perfectly. What I aimed for is a simple case with one clear purpose: to house my Pi as a server for Octoprint. No frills, no extras. In the attached image, you'll see a battery holder designed specifically for an auxiliary power supply that's connected directly to the PI's casing. The 5V power supply unit itself has also been cleverly housed within the design. My idea behind this setup is straightforward: when I remotely shut off power to the printer, the Pi enters a safe shutdown mode without incident. If you simply cut power to the PI, it can potentially cause harm to its SD card or even more critically damage the Pi itself. With my design, that's no longer an option. Instead, everything runs smoothly, just as I planned. As for assembly, don't worry - it's easy peasy. You'll find a complete OpenSCAD file right there, which is pretty straightforward once you get into it.
