3DRAG/K8200 Z axis cable driven parallel drive system
thingiverse
This mod guarantees that the Z axis is powered from both sides, utilizing a closed loop cable drive system. The chosen cable is a high-strength steel cored fishing line capable of withstanding 41 kilograms. Several strands can potentially be utilized at once. A fresh and significantly reworked version has been posted, offering a completely revised design for the Z axis: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1520729 To start working on this mod, follow these steps: Firstly, additional components are required: 6 x 608 bearings, M5x25 bolts (preferably hex-headed), M5 washers and nuts (square ones will slide into the extrusion without issue if standard M5 nuts cannot be located). Additionally needed are a piece of steel cored fishing line or its equivalent. Furthermore, 4 zip ties will complete the necessary materials. When installing the bearings, a tight press fit is required for the pulleys, and crimp-on sleeves come with the fishing line but different eyelets might be essential if other cables need them. For inserting the bearings into the pulleys, I suggest employing a small bench vise with another bearing used as a spacer to guide the last few millimeters in. The cap, stand, pulley, support, and frame should then be bolted securely through these parts. When working on this design, remember that you may need extra steps such as: sliding the lower loop onto two nuts which require loosening of some frame screws so you can position them to make it fit inside an extrusion where there will still remain four more for other pulleys. After inserting a second nut at either side (which is held tight using those frame bolts that have already been tightened back up after completing this process), proceed to the upper part of the framework located below and tighten everything once again before getting onto actually building anything else involving Z axis performance optimization here;
