3Drag (K8200) electronics case
thingiverse
Big thanks go out to Wallie for kicking things off. I chose the "K8200 Cover with 40mm Fan" as my starting point because it offered the most robust electronics case on Thingiverse for the 3Drag. Now, hopefully, everyone can benefit from my learning curve when it comes to using Blender.\nI know why Wallie decided to place the fan on the back edge of the case, but those stepper chips need an exhaust right above the chimney. That meant moving the keyway for wiring was in order. Not a problem, as the relief ended up being more integrated with the rail than before. I made the ridge on the base solid all the way around its perimeter, adjusted the position of the USB notch by 2.5mm, added a cut-out for the LCD header, and raised the PCB mounting points to give clearance for a pair of low-profile M5 bolt heads and fender washers.\nIf you aren't using an LCD controller, then just wire the 12V header pins to the fan. In my case, I soldered a pair of leads to the back of the coaxial jack. Regardless, you'll want a 40x10mm fan exhaust running whenever power is applied to the electronics. Enjoy!\nABS printed much easier than PLA. Make sure to pay attention to the narrow passage between the keyway and fan opening in the top of the case. The holes in the base are undersized, so just drill them to size with a 5mm or #7 bit. If you're going to be making lots of things, I'd suggest buying a drill and tap set for M3x0.50. The case holds together with M3x50 flat head bolts. Use M3x8 for mounting the PCB.
