Overview: This bracket allows for the mounting of a Banggood M8N, which can be purchased for under $18, or a Readytoflyquads M8N Mini8, currently on sale for $17. The bracket keeps the GPS closer to the top, similar to the stock GPS position, in an effort to keep the antenna clearer. The GPS is attached to the bracket with three short screws or double stick tape, then flipped over and mounted in the Solo using the original screws (only use three). The original copper shield should be re-installed, with one screw inserted through it - use tape if necessary to secure the shield on the other side. Wiring: The two GPS's mentioned above will work out of the box with the 3DR Solo. The baud rate is already correct, so you only need to splice the harness that comes with the new GPS into the stock Solo GPS harness. Verify the connections as the wiring colors may vary - typically RED for Vcc (5V), BLACK for Ground, YELLOW for Transmit, and gray or brown for Receive. You will only use 4 of the 6 wires. If everything is done correctly, you should experience faster satellite acquisition times with the new GPS. Commonly, 16 satellites are acquired on the ground and 20+ in the air, sometimes as many as 23. HDOP values of 0.5 to 0.7 are expected. Keep in mind that although acquisition times and HDOP values may be improved, the robustness of the GPS lock with these GPS's may or may not be better than stock. As with any GPS, be prepared for loss of GPS lock if a large portion of the sky is blocked by trees or buildings. Even with over a dozen satellites showing, multipath interference can cause loss of GPS lock. Always have Manual mode programmed onto your A or B button and know how to fly manually without GPS.
