3DPI Awards Trophy 2020 - 2-Way Lattice
myminifactory
I hope you enjoy this entry into the 3D Printing Industry Awards 2020 trophy design competition! The concept behind this design was yin-yang: opaque and transparent, MJF and SLA, positive and negative lattice details, free software and commercial software - all coming together in balance. I wanted to highlight several techniques and technologies in this design: The overall geometry was modelled in Solidworks. Pieces of the lower part were then turned into a lattice in Meshmixer, suitable for MJF 3D printing (or SLS if desired). The interior of the top part had a lattice structure subtracted in Materialise Magics, creating hollow channels, yet the exterior has a completely smooth shell. This part is for SLA printing. And the renders were done in Fusion 360. When the 2 parts come together, the "3DPIA 2020" text pushes through the SLA part from the MJF part, helping connect them, but allowing people to pull them apart to view all the details.
