3DPi Award 2017
myminifactory
What an incredible opportunity it is to design a trophy for the 2017 3dpi Awards. My design showcases innovative elements of 3D printing by featuring an extruder head as the striking focal point. I also successfully integrated traditional art deco trophy details with the dual inset rails, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design. The protrusion on the extruders block represents a cooling fan with an intricately inlaid star, adding a sense of sophistication to the trophy's design. Additionally, recessed panels along the plinth block allow for engraved plates to be mounted if the award organizers desire. I printed the model shown here using my Flashforge Finder, and it was a great way to test out the design at 25% scale. Although I didn't use any supports, I believe the overall quality would have been even better with their addition. Unfortunately, some of the finer details were lost due to scaling issues and the lower quality print settings on my printer. The extruder head features a 1/8" hole, making it easy to add additional numeral embellishments if desired. I had an absolute blast designing this award, and what a fantastic challenge it was!
