Here are the modifications that were made to the MakeBlock XY Plotter (drawbot): http://www.makeblock.cc/xy-plotter-robot-kit/ The carriage design of the MakeBlock XY Plotter didn't meet my expectations, so I decided to redesign the X and Y axis carriages. But I didn't stop there! I created a completely new version of an XY Plotter using 3D printed parts instead of extruded aluminum blocks bolted together. Now, there are just 24 (or 28 if using 3D printed pulley holders) 3D printed parts combined with Makeblock components: 8mm bearings/holders (6 total), 4x 8mm linear rods, 4x 18t MXL pulleys (or possibly GT2), 10x shaft bearings, 3x 3mm OD x 40mm length rod (Makeblock provides 56mm length), 1x 3mm OD x 510mm length rod, 3 drive belts provided by Makeblock, some 3/8" (9.5mm) wooden dowels/rod and a few 3mm nuts and bolts. This upgrade increases the working area from 310mm × 390mm to 340mm x 400mm, which I was very pleased with. (Roughly 16" x 13.5") Additionally, with a vertical pen lift mechanism, drawing precision has improved significantly. I would like to find quiet/near-quiet micro-servos since the supplied servo is far from silent. More information can be found here soon
