3dp flying ring 8d 29p 1c
thingiverse
An 8-inch diameter flying ring with a max camber of 29% positioned just behind the aft wing's leading edge, boasting an airfoil chord of 1 inch in width. Print Settings Printer Brand: Robo 3D Printer: R1 ABS + PLA Model Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Low Infill: 50% Notes: I recommend using a tougher plastic than PLA for the prototype. The ring was successfully printed with the PLA/PHA blend from PRINTinZ, utilizing a bed temperature of 40 C and a nozzle temperature of 210 C, along with hairspray on the bed. Once the bed has cooled completely, the ring usually comes loose without much assistance. Post-Printing Theory and flying The ring airfoil is designed to keep the center of lift directly at the center of gravity of the ring. If the COL is positioned ahead of the COG, the ring will turn left when spinning clockwise. Conversely, if the COL is situated aft of the COG, it will turn right when spinning clockwise. Given that the aft airfoil flies in the down-wash from the forward airfoil, the max camber point is strategically placed to make the aft airfoil more efficient than the forward airfoil, and this positioning varies for different diameter flying rings. Begin your throw with the ring almost level and your wrist bent back toward your body. As your arm reaches maximum extension, snap your wrist forward to impart maximum spin as well as maximum velocity onto the ring. Experiment with slightly different disk angles and speeds to adjust the flight path. The ring is capable of flying a considerable distance, so be sure to provide yourself with ample room!
