Focus, initially designed for SLS printing, lacked vital components and led to a backup plan of converting it into a 3DP printer. The progress has been worth sharing; however, Focus has been discontinued due to issues like slowness, unreliability, and jamming piston design. Inkjet printing in powder proved more effective, prompting the abandonment of Focus as it was deemed too slow for experiments. A new faster printer aimed at 3DP printing is under construction with expected completion by March 2014. The converted Focus uses HP C6602 inkjet cartridges and prints with Zcorp powder and binder. Printing with only one nozzle results in longer times for small objects, prompting plans to create a new printer specifically for 3DP powder printing, 30 times faster than the current model. Videos and images of prints are available, with better ones showcasing Focus's inkjet printing capabilities on paper.
