Here's my custom frame for the 3D Fly Micro Quad. This is version one... My first print turned out more than good enough, so I started building the quad with it right away. The frame itself weighs in at a mere ten grams when printed using PLA. It's a bit lighter than the model from Hovership, and it's significantly sturdier. You can complete the quad build using just the main frame alone, but I prefer to protect the LiPo battery and flight controller with some additional plates. I'm using M3 x 1.5 centimeter nylon screws and nuts to attach the FC and battery plates, along with tie wraps to secure the motors in their sockets. Once the plates are screwed down, the frame becomes incredibly stiff - so much so that the arms barely twist at all. The plates themselves are just one millimeter thick, yet flexible enough to wrap snugly around the MicroFrX and battery, keeping them securely in place. Prop Guards have been redesigned and printed using ABS for added flexibility and strength. They fit significantly better than the initial version. For version two, I plan on shaving some weight off the main frame while also accommodating a future FPV setup by designing a new top plate. The airframe's total weight comes in at sixty-two grams... Clearly, I need to shave off a few grams if I want to handle the additional weight of FPV gear effectively. Given that PLA was all that was available for this initial print, I went ahead and used it. The next iteration will be made from ABS, however. I hope you enjoy it! To resolve this issue, I used a Pritt glue stick on the print bed with excellent results - everything printed out smooth as silk. Printed using Cura 15.02.1-1.03
