3DFlagchy - Flag for #3DBenchy
thingiverse
Ever wondered what the tiny hole at the rear of #3DBenchy is for? This hole is a tiny flagpole that will print in just minutes, and theoretically fits perfectly inside. It allows you to add some flair to your collection of test prints while also testing your printer's accuracy. Unfortunately, most FDM printers struggle to print the hole with exact dimensions, and the flagpole may be slightly too thick for its intended purpose. Be prepared to either sand or scrape the pole, or enlarge the hole with a 2 mm drill. On a perfectly calibrated printer, the pole would fit snugly, but you'd need to scale up the flag model by about 15% in the Z axis to achieve a tight fit. Separate parts for dual extrusion printers are also provided - these may be the smallest parts you'll ever print. This tiny design should print fine without a raft, despite its small contact surface. However, if you decide to scale up the flag model, you may need to use support material to prevent it from sagging, even with proper cooling. I've included models with the flag pointing upwards ('flagUp' files) for those who want to try something different. This design may be challenging to print at normal scales, but could work better if printed at larger sizes.
