3DEV - A 3D Extracellular Vesicle

thingiverse

We built a community 3D extracellular vesicle to showcase our work in nano-bio-science. Sometimes, it's easier to have something concrete to point to when explaining complex concepts. To complement the molecules that make up the 3D vesicle, we've created handouts that introduce each molecule briefly. These handouts are designed to be a quick reference guide for users who want to learn more about each molecule. The vesicle model prints well on an FDM printer, but the lipid details in the membrane are quite thin and delicate. We successfully printed all parts using an entry-level FDM printer with Cura software to slice them. It's worth noting that due to the level of detail, it's helpful to print using rafts to a flat surface before starting. If you need to resize the model, be sure to scale all subsequent parts accordingly. To create this 3D vesicle: Print one base: This is where all the rings and proteins are attached. Choose from our selection of molecules, which includes integrins, tetraspanins, MHC-1, HSPG/betaglycans, ICAM-1, and aquaporins. Each file is labeled with the molecule's name for easy identification. We'd like to extend our gratitude to all contributing authors: Christian Burton Kate Milward Sara Veiga Muireann Ni Bhaoighill Lauren Evans Andreia De Almeida Roman Mikhailov Fangda Wu Chris (Xin) Yang Rachel Errington Jason Webber Aled Clayton This project was supported by a Wellcome Trust ISSF grant (2018-2019) and Cardiff University School of Medicine.
