The Amazing Earth Model Project is a Hands-On Learning Experience Based on Design by mfritz. Grade Level: 4-6 Objectives: * Students will be able to describe the basic structure of our planet. * Students will be able to identify and explain the importance of the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and continents. * Students will demonstrate an understanding of the interconnectedness of these systems. Materials: * Amazing Earth Model (downloaded from Thingiverse) * Whiteboard or chart paper * Markers or colored pencils Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Begin by asking students if they have ever stopped to think about what makes up our amazing planet. 2. Write down their responses on the board and address any misconceptions. Activity 1: Exploring the Earth's Structure (20 minutes): 1. Show students the Amazing Earth Model and ask if they can identify its different parts. 2. Use the model to explain how the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and continents work together. 3. Have students draw a diagram of the Earth's structure on their paper. Activity 2: Investigating the Earth's Systems (30 minutes): 1. Divide students into small groups and give each group a copy of the Amazing Earth Model. 2. Ask them to choose one of the Earth's systems (atmosphere, oceans, or continents) and create a model or diagram that shows how it works. 3. Have each group present their findings to the class. Conclusion (10 minutes): 1. Review with students what they have learned about the Amazing Earth Model and its components. 2. Ask students to reflect on what they would like to learn more about in future lessons. Assessment: * Observe student participation during activities. * Evaluate student diagrams and models for accuracy and completeness. * Use a rubric to assess student understanding of the Earth's structure and systems. Extensions: * Have students research and create presentations on different topics related to the Earth's systems (e.g., climate change, ocean currents). * Invite a guest speaker to talk to the class about their work in environmental science or conservation.
