3D4KIDS exercise: Bespoke Handles for Magic Money Box
myminifactory
This is part of a series of 30 exercises developed during the 3D4KIDS program. One of the main goals of this Erasmus+ program is to improve teachers' knowledge of 3d printing technology by creating specific training materials. Find more information on the website: https://www.3d4kids.eu/ During this project, students have been using various techniques to cut, prepare, shape and join different materials. Students would use various tools/machines to prepare mild steel, including the brazing hearth. Students would also use hand/portable and fixed machinery to prepare wood and plastic being used to construct the money box. Ensure all students complete their Magic Money Boxes – only having the handle left to add to their products. Make sure all boxes have the 5.5 mm hole drilled in, ready for the printed handle. Step 1: Have students research different types of handle shapes – create a mood board from found images on the internet. Step 2: Have students sketch out the type of handle they would like to add to their individual products – add annotations and decide which design (shape) looks best on their products. Step 3: Have students draw their chosen idea in Tinkercad. Step 4: More able students might consider the texture of their handle and adapt their drawing accordingly. Step 5: Have students export their final design to Flash Forge Finder. Step 6: Have students scale their drawing to allow the handle to fit inside the 5.5mm hole within their product. Step 7: Have students print their handle in their chosen color to match or complement their Magic Money Box. Step 8: Have students attach their handle and photograph their product. Step 9: Have students complete the write-up in their Production Logs on the processes they have just carried out.
