This is part of a series of 30 exercises developed through the 3D4KIDS program. The main goal of this Erasmus+ program is to enhance teachers' understanding of 3d printing technology by creating specific training materials. For more information, visit https://www.3d4kids.eu. During this project, students have used various techniques to cut, shape, and join different materials. Students would have utilized a variety of tools/machines to prepare the mild steel, including the brazing hearth. They would also have used hand/portable and fixed machinery to prepare the wood and plastic used in constructing the money box. Ensure all students have their Magic Money Boxes complete, with only the handle left to add to their products. Make sure all boxes have a 5.5 mm hole drilled in, ready for the printed handle. Step 1: Students research different types of handle shapes – create a mood board using images found on the internet. Step 2: Students sketch out their preferred handle design – include annotations and decide which shape would look best on their products. Step 3: Students draw their chosen idea in Tinkercad. Step 4: More advanced students may consider adding texture to their handle and adapt their drawing accordingly. Step 5: Students export their final design to Flash Forge Finder. Step 6: Students scale their drawing to fit the 5.5mm hole within their product. Step 7: Students print their handle in a chosen color that matches or complements their Magic Money Box. Step 8: Students attach their handle and photograph their completed product. Step 9: Students complete the write-up in their Production Logs, detailing the processes they have just carried out.
