3D Texture - Smoke
thingiverse
This volumetric texture, created by sweeping a plane through a procedural smoke texture, has been rendered into a 8-bit, non-tiling 256 x 256 x 256 voxel resolution data cube. Iso-surface meshes in PLY and STL formats are also provided. Additionally, PNG codec AVI versions, one with faded edges for seamless surfaces, are included. The texture originates from an archive made nearly a decade ago. Available formats include 256x256x256 8-bit RAW data (zipped) and BMP sequence (zipped). This volumetric object is part of a series aimed at demonstrating the differences between polygonal and volumetric representations, with further information available on 40westdesigns.com/blog/?p=371 and engineering.com/3DPrinting/3DPrintingArticles/ArticleID/4523/2012-The-Beginning-of-the-End-for-Polygons.aspx.
