3D text Thank You for Wired Insider

In a contest by Wired Insider (http://wiredinsider.tumblr.com/post/6496464550/announcing-the-wired-maker), I won my first TOM and thank them for hosting such an amazing event. Co-judged by adafruit, the contest aimed to find the 'Wired Maker.' Afterward, I took a crash course in 3D design using AutoDesk Inventor, which is free for students. A helpful video tutorial series can be found on robcohee's YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/robcohee). However, I encountered an issue with Inventor as it doesn't allow direct extrusion of text. To overcome this, I had to reverse emboss the text onto an existing 3D object and then cut extrude another background 3D object to remove the initial one used for embossing. I am curious if anyone has a better solution for creating 3D text in Inventor. I highly recommend checking out Wired Insider's blog as I am now a loyal reader!
