3D Susan
thingiverse
The 3D SusanI recently added a Creality CR-200b Pro to my inventory. The only downside of this printer is the location of the filament spool at the back. In a case like mine where the printer is sitting on a table against a wall, access for filament change can only be achieved by rotating the printer. While it is doable, dragging and rotating the printer for each filament change is somewhat awkward. Some have implemented off-the-shelf 'Lazy Susan' turntable bases to accomplish this.I came up with this idea and designed this unique turntable. It is intended specifically for the CR-200b printer but can also be used with different printers as will be explained.Main features of the 3D Susan:The 3D Susan is very rigid and keeps the printer wobble free as it supports the printer over a wide base – directly under the original feet of the printer. The 3D Susan is very shallow and only adds about 9mm of height. The 3D Susan uses eight ball bearings, two at each corner, they are precisely positioned on a common circle for smooth and easy rotation. The bearings roll directly on the table surface. The 3D Susan can be locked in place and prevent rotation by two levers that jack the two front feet of the printer and float their 'bogies'. The lock & jack levers can be fine adjusted to correct uneven table surface and prevent the printer from wobbling. The 3D Susan is made up of parts small enough to be printed on 200x200mm beds. The 3D Susan can be printed in basic PLA as there is no extreme load or wear on any of the 3D Susan's printed parts. The 3D Susan can also be used with other printers by adding an adequate base board for the printer to sit on, and attaching the 4 feet cones to the underside of that board. The locations of the feet cones should match the receptacles of the 3D Susan (center distances of 299mm wide by 316mm deep).Printed parts:1x Center Hub2x Back legs1x Front left leg1x Front right leg1x Left jack lever1x Right jack lever4x Feet cones (only needed if printer is Not the CR-200B)Other parts:8x 696zz bearings (6x16x5mm)8x M6/25mm hex head bolts8x M6 nutsJanuary 26th 2024 Update:I wasn't happy with the rotation locking function of the lift jacks, as the flat base of the jacks was still sliding on the table surface even in the locked position. So I made a small improvement.I added recesses at the bottom of the jacks for small silicone feet. Now when the lift jacks are in the lock position, the silicone feet are pressed to the table surface and give enough friction to really keep the printer from rotating. As of January 26th 2024 the STL files of the lift jacks are updated and include the above recesses. The silicone feet are dome shaped, 6mm in diameter, 2mm high, self-adhesive. Happy printing…
