This is an updated design for 3D Solutech Masterspool filament.

3D Solutech is a US based filament manufacturer that is starting to provide Masterspool filaments.

This design is specific to 3D Solutech Masterspool filament with a cardboard core that has the following dimensions:

Masterspool Filament Core DIA: 75mm

Masterspool Filament Thickness: 67mm

Masterspool MAX OD: 195mm (should print no issues on a 200x200 print bed)

I've taken design ideas from @RichRap3D Masterspool v4, which allows the user to zip-tie loaded filament to remove partially used rolls. This will allow you to print ONE Masterspool to use over multiple filaments.

Filament Loading -

Place Masterspool filament over Masterspool hub, aligning zip ties into slots in hub.

Mate Masterspool end onto Masterspool hub and screw together until zip ties cause Masterspool end to bind or stop.

Cut zip-ties off Masterspool filament.

Tighten Masterspool end to hub the remainder of the way. Do not over tighten or you may break the Masterspoool.

Insert free filament end into one of the slots in the outer edge when not printing.

Filament Unloading -

Slightly loosen Masterspool end from hub until the zip tie slots are aligned between both end and hub.

Insert three zip ties or Velcro straps though end of Masterspool and between Masterspool hub and cardboard tube the filament is wound on.

Route zip tie or Velcro around outer edge of filament and secure spooled filament.

Remove Masterspool end off of Masterspool hub.

Removed tied Masterspool filament from hub and store.

3nov2018 - Updated design of hub part to match newly Created version with 608 bearings directly in hub and end: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3193164

2nov2018 - Created a 608 bearing spindle for this Masterspool: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3192173

1nov2018 - UPDATE - "end" printed and interfaced with "hub". Added Loading and Unloading instructions.

1nov2018 - Hub print is complete and spool hub is below the cardboard insert (see photo) as designed. End part is printing and expected to take up the gap difference.

31oct2018 - I'm currently printing physical models of this master spool. These parts should work based on dimensions. My R&D prints of the threaded ends printed well and screwed together perfectly. When both halves are fully tightened, the slots may not light up to zip the filament, simply loosen slightly, insert zip ties and secure before removing end piece from hub piece.

Print Settings

Printer:

Anet A8

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.3mm down to 0.2mm

Infill:

15% Grid

Filament:
3D Solutech PLA
Real Orange

Notes:

I printed with 3 wall count using a 0.4mm nozzle

Category: 3D Printing
