3D Settlers of Catan polypanel globe
myminifactory
This is an enhancement of my original 3D printed globe design that leveraged over 300 magnets to hold all tiles, villages and numbers in place (check out the images). With polypanels, this system can be greatly streamlined: the panels don't require any adhesives to connect. To stay true to my philosophy, I've also designed the villages, tiles, numbers and streets to snap into place, eliminating the need for magnets altogether. All designs are crafted with Tinkercad to showcase its versatility. The tiles fit snugly inside the altered polypanels, while the panels connect from the inside out, ensuring printability without supports. Since I only have green filament available at the moment and time is running low, I've printed a sample consisting of 3 panels, 2 tiles, 3 numbers, 2 streets and a village to demonstrate printability and snap-fit functionality. A picture of my previous globe design is included to illustrate potential and final concept. The top and bottom parts need to be mounted opposite each other, with a 10mm rod used for sliding the globe in place, allowing for rotation. Adjustments to the rules: Exchange stations are replaced by exchange numbers. Arrows point at nodes/villages/cities that use the exchange stations. Surrounding tiles define primary resources that can be exchanged. The 3:1 ratio can be placed inside water as an island and anything can be exchanged in this ratio. The robber cannot be placed on top of a token but should temporarily replace it instead. As mentioned earlier, I'm running low on filament at the moment, so I'll print the complete globe in a couple of weeks, but for now, these few green parts combined with my previous design should suffice as proof of concept.
