3D scranner

Ever since I got my 3D printer, I've always dreamed of building a 3D scanner. I've had an Xbox Kinect sensor and used it to scan objects into the computer, but it's only really good for large objects, rooms, or people. I've also tried 123D Catch, but getting a good scan with just images and without a turntable with set angles is extremely difficult. The scanner I need uses a laser to highlight one side of the object. This method has different challenges, but it might work perfectly for what I need. With this approach, I'm using a SLR camera to scan objects into the computer using either 123D Catch, Horus, or other software. Two laser lines can be projected onto the object to help with scanning. The turntable uses a NEMA 17 stepper motor to rotate it to different angles. All the lasers and stepper motors are controlled by an Arduino UNO and an A4988 stepper motor controller located underneath the scanner. This Arduino receives commands either from the computer scanning the object or a button to rotate the turntable at various angles. http://tinkersprojects.com/Projects/3d-scanner/ see more of what I've done: http://tinkersprojects.com/
