3D Scanner - Android based
thingiverse
NO, this is not Starship Enterprise even though It looks like. This is my interpretation of a 3D Scanner, crafted with just a few additional parts, an Android phone can handle all necessary capabilities for 3D scanning. Follow the instructions! Highlights about this scanner include: Printing time is quick, and only the disk takes a little more time. No microcontroller or firmware is required, just laser and motor. Watch a video of my creation at https://youtu.be/3iBqB1-8d1Y And here's another one of "Adolf the duck" at http://youtu.be/lmRgxYoPE90 I would greatly appreciate it if you could post some photos and scan results! Instructions Part List: * All STL files above once, but 3D scanner base two times. * An Android phone or tablet * A red line laser like the one at http://www.ebay.com/itm/281562839777 * A small rotating motor (only 3 RPM) similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/261549739071. A microwave motor like http://www.ebay.com/itm/261301609520 may also be suitable. * Two aluminum square profile rods, each 10mm square by about 200-300mm long * Two aluminum round rods with a diameter of 8mm x 100mm * Two M3x10 screws and two M3 nuts for inserting into the base * A rubber band to mount the Android phone Assembly/Setup: Print all parts. Prepare the rods. Insert M3 screws and nuts into the base. Mount the motor into its housing. Assemble everything together. Connect the laser and motor electrically. I used a 12V power adapter and an LM7805 to supply the laser. Adjust the laser (1) by adjusting the lens for minimal laser line thickness, (2) ensure it is exactly vertical, and (3) adjust it to point directly at the center of the dish. Get the Android app "scan3doid" from the Google Playstore. Make sure to use at least version 1.3; older versions are quite unstable. Mount the Android device to its holder. Complete the instructions within the Android app. Some hints for successful 3D scanning: * First attempts might not always be perfect; retry with different settings to improve results. * Ensure a good setup; what the laser doesn't touch and the camera can't see won't translate into the STL file. * Happy 3D scanning!
