3D Scan of a Shell

3D Scan of a Shell

cults3d

I created a 3D scan and print of a beach shell my wife and I discovered on vacation several years ago. This was my first attempt at 3D scanning using David3 software with a structured light setup. The shell rested upside down on a turntable and rotated during the scanning process, and since the bottom wasn't scanned, the software made an educated guess about its appearance. On March 11, 2013, I experimented with vapor polishing using acetone vapor and applied it to this shell. The results were impressive after just eight minutes in a glass jar containing one tablespoon of acetone at 100 degrees Celsius. If you decide to try this method, be cautious: use gloves, ensure good ventilation, and employ a safety enclosure.
