3D Scan of a Shell
youmagine
A 3D scan and print of a shell that my wife and I stumbled upon on the beach during our vacation a few years ago is showcased here, marking my first attempt at 3D scanning. Utilizing David3 software with a structured light setup, the shell was scanned with precision after being laid flat on a turntable and rotated to capture its intricate details from every angle. Although the opening faced downwards, I deliberately chose not to scan the bottom, allowing the software to make an educated guess about what it should look like. As expected, the print surface is rough and uneven, necessitating full support or alternatively slicing it in half and gluing the two halves together for a seamless finish. A high-resolution version of the 3D model along with a reduced resolution version are attached for reference purposes.
