We scanned this defective machine part urgently to create a repaired parametric 3D model based on the scan. The related facility itself has been in operation for more than 70 years, and both original construction plans and replacement parts are lost. The irregular shape makes quick reconstruction even more difficult. After repairing and working over this model, we implemented it into a high-quality replacement part using a CNC milling machine. With the new piece, we can now put the stopped machine back in operation. To keep downtime low, we used 3D scan and parameterization techniques and were able to install the finished milled part back into the machine within four days.
