I designed this model and environment within 3DS Max. My final designs on a 3D Saltaire took an unexpected turn, as I deviated from building the Salts Hall and Victoria Hall to instead focus on creating a bench and several Saltaire houses. Both the BR 333 and BR 158 trains were meticulously crafted in 3DS Max and featured prominently in the final render. Initially, I envisioned the Saltaire train station with two platforms but later scaled it back to a single station with a glass roof. Instead of designing the sheds at Roberts Park, I opted to create a bandstand and bench. I further enhanced the scene by incorporating floating platforms, which added a touch of futurism. The aspect that excites me most about the final design is its complexity, achieved through separate models positioned on individual islands. My ability to manage time effectively was instrumental in meeting the deadline, as I knew precisely how many models I needed to create and allocate sufficient hours each night. Recognizing the limitation imposed by college computers running 3DS Max 2012, I chose to work with smaller and medium-sized models rather than pushing to create an excessive number of large-scale designs. However, a pressing issue arose when working with lighting and rendering in 3DS Max due to the power constraints on my laptop. Fortunately, its processing capabilities enabled me to render high-quality video sequences both as Avi or Jpeg files. Texturing posed another problem when merging files, as the texture frequently became disordered with multiple overlays applied simultaneously. I discovered that designing the train proved effortless, as I was able to modify its color and design with great ease. This capability derived from my long-standing passion for trains, motivating me to excel in crafting more train models and stations. While certain aspects of my work compare well with professional designs, such as the houses and bench and BR 333 train, other components unfortunately reflect a level commensurate with an amateur or hasty endeavor. I have showcased all individual models and the final product on social media platforms like 'Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram,' garnering incredibly positive responses, including 'That looks awesome!' and 'Louis must have spent countless hours crafting it - it looks really good!' Going forward, I recognize the importance of managing time more effectively, ensuring that my designated 3DS Max period remains focused without distraction from external interruptions.
