3D Reconfigurable Chessboard
thingiverse
This thing is a reconfigurable 3D chessboard designed specifically for those chess players seeking an additional challenge in the game. Try out the Gauntlet, King of the Hill, or Gladiator configurations to experience different perspectives on the classic game. The board features four corners that can be rearranged to create unique patterns. The design includes 1-inch squares, which is not regulation size. Pieces with a base measuring 3/4 inch will fit just fine, but standard pieces may require some effort to accommodate due to their slightly larger size. To achieve a regulation-sized board, consider applying a scale factor of 200 percent; however, keep in mind that this adjustment might make the larger components too big for your print bed. Each corner consists of seven layers, and you will need four corners in total. It's essential to note that not all corners are identical - two types exist: color-coded as number one and number two. To assemble the board, print two copies of each layer (numbered 1 through 7) using different colors. Alternate these colors when stacking the layers, applying glue from bottom to top, and ensure that you apply glue to the underside of smaller components. If desired, you can also opt for a single-colored corner piece and paint your preferred colors onto it to conserve plastic. Due to their symmetrical nature, the pieces are stackable for convenient storage. To address potential issues with layer adhesion, chamfers were added to prevent overhanging material from interfering with adjacent squares. Printer settings: - Printer: Flashforge dual - Rafts: No - Supports: No - Resolution: 0.2 - Infill: 10%
