3D printer spool reel
thingiverse
For this year's Father's day I wanted to give my father something special rather than just a case of beer or a sign with some beer related quote. I had several empty 3D printing spools from 123-3D, a Dutch company that sells 3D printing materials, and thought I could combine this. I designed a simple 3D printable reel that was designed to be glued together. It was initially designed for a spool with "droge worst" (Google translate tells me it would translate to Dry Sausage/Hard Sausage/Jerky (?)). After printing I found that the "Reel Cap" has a nice snap and doesn't need to be glued when not desired. Although the reel was designed as somewhat decorative I could also imagine people could see it as a useful design as spool holder for their printer etc. Because of this I included additional caps without the flange so you don't need the handle (additional parts file) and I'm planning to make 2 additional versions, one with a screw cap and a thicker/more sturdier version. All needed parts for every version are in their own zip file and the additional caps etc. can be found in the "additional parts" file. The text template also comes in Parasolid,Step and 3MF file format. When my design does not fit your spool (e.g. spools from different filament manufacturers) comment me the spool dimensions and manufacturer and I'll add the design to the collection.
