The most cost efficient anti-vibration and noise damper you will find!

Print instructions

I never expected this to work

The most cost efficient anti-vibration and noise damper you will find!

Here is the gcode and *.stl file for making your own 3D printer suspension out of cheap kitchen sponges.

Use the cheapest garbage kitchen sponges you can buy. They will do perfect as an anti-vibration damper for your 3D Printer. The noise level reduction and vibration dampening is dramatic!

How does it work?

The sponges are perfectly squishy for absorbing the vibrations of the printer, so that they won't be transmitted through the bench/table into the house. This part will distribute the load of your printer evenly over the surface of the sponge, so it is evenly-squishy and does not collapse.

How to print?

Just use the gcode provided for PLA. I never tested any other material, but I am sure it will work fine. I modified the first print layer speed down to 10 mm/s, to get that extra clean bottom surface. There is slight infill to save you some printing time and keep rigidity. You may use 100% infill if you have the time for it.

How to install?

Print 4 of those parts and get 8 cheap kitchen sponges. Put 4 of the sponges below (scruffy side up), where the feet of your 3D printer will touch the surface.

Add another sponge on top of each (scruffy side up), for a total of 2 sponges per feet. Then place this 3D printed part on top of each sponge tower, with the border facing down. This will make a squishy, firm spongy dampener for your printer!

But, my printer will fall or slide off!

No! It will stay firmly in place. Even with 2 full 1 kg spools on top! Just make sure to place the feet of your printer in the center of each holder, and you are golden. It doesn't budge, even if the printer rattles like a rattle snake.

It does not fit the sponges I can get here!

Simply resize the *.stl file in your preferred slicer software to where it fits your sponges. Leave a tiny bit of wiggle room on each side.

It does not sit properly!

Make sure the feet are centered on the printed holder. Maybe get someone else to hold the printer for you in the mean time, while you fine adjust the placement. Remove the spool(s) from the printer to avoid complaining, or dropping of a spool or 2.

Happy quiet printing!
