3D Printer Friendly Chuck

3D Printer Friendly Chuck

This is a chuck designed for use with a lathe or laser rotary axis. It's engineered to be significantly easier to print than any of the chuck designs available online. No supports are required during printing. The jaws should be printed so that the numbers on them face upwards, away from the bed. This chuck is designed to mount directly onto a NEMA 17 stepper motor with a 5mm D-profile shaft. The only purchased hardware needed for assembly is a 3/4" snap ring; you can easily modify it for metric applications if necessary. I used a 3/4" snap ring as it was the size I had available, but you can opt for a metric version if preferred. The scroll plate has been designed with a significant amount of play built into its movement. However, when tightened, the scroll plate pushes the jaws upwards and inwards, effectively eliminating any play or slop. The rest of the model is engineered to provide tight sliding fits, allowing for smooth operation.
