3D Printer 80mm Fan to 4" Printer External Dryer Vent Adapter
thingiverse
Many people find the smell of plastic from a 3D printer to be extremely unpleasant. Plus, some studies have shown that plastic fumes are toxic, especially to small children or individuals who suffer from asthma. The only way to ensure fumes aren't harming friends and family in the house or workshop is to vent them outside. This adapter connects to an 80mm fan on one side and a standard 4" dryer duct on the other to maintain air pressure and blow the fumes outside the house. I've been using this adapter on my main printer for about six months now, and visitors report they can't smell anything unless they put their nose right up against the printer. This adapter connects to any 3D printer enclosure from 3D Upfitters or you can connect it to any enclosed 3D printer by cutting a hole to match most 80mm computer fans. The hose is then vented to the outside using whatever technique you prefer. I simply bought a window insert from Amazon. The downside was the 80mm fan wasn't strong enough to push the flap open, so I propped up the flap halfway. Note that venting the fumes will reduce the ambient temperature inside the printer, which could be an issue with ABS. I haven't noticed any problems, but tend to run my bed at 120 degrees Celsius.
