3D-Printed Wrist-Driven Orthosis (WDO)
pinshape
This 3D-printed hand orthosis is designed from a traditional metal device commonly prescribed for people who lack mobility in their fingers but can move their wrists. By extending and flexing their wrist, users can close and open their hand in a pinching grasp, allowing them to pick up objects and perform daily activities. Over the past two years, this 3D-printed orthosis has been tested with Prosthetics & Orthotics students and individuals with spinal cord injuries. The design and fabrication methods have been improved through constant iterations with feedback from both testing groups. Each WDO component comes in a range of sizes (from XS to XL) for an improved fit. STL files for each component can be found here, and SolidWorks files are available for more precise customization of individual parts. You can watch the device in use on video here. The instruction manual for right-hand and left-hand WDOs is accessible on Google Drive. For those downloading STL files, disregard pages 5-10 (to be used for more precise size customization once CAD files are posted online). Feel free to contact me with any questions. I hope you enjoy the design!
