This 4/4 scale cello prototype features a fully-integrated sound chamber with optimized sound post and bass bar placement, precisely replicating the acoustics of traditional cellos. Crafted from standard cello wood components and high-quality strings, this electronic cello is engineered to be printed on larger-scale machines like the Lulzbot Taz or CR10S with a 300mm build area. Following one year of rigorous testing, our design has demonstrated exceptional durability and reliability, maintaining tune and stability while avoiding cracking or strain. Sound quality is comparable to mid-range acoustic cellos and can be easily amplified for professional performances. An exhaustive set of instructions and parts documentation is provided; a detailed BOM and enhanced diagrams are forthcoming in Version 2. This project requires advanced 3D printing expertise and fundamental luthier skills, emphasizing the importance of thorough preparation before commencing. Consult our official development thread on Lulzbot Forum for continuous updates: https://forum.lulzbot.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=5037 To produce this electronic cello, additional components are necessary beyond those provided, including: - M3 and M5 heat-set inserts - Bolts of varying lengths (M3 and M5) with corresponding nylock nuts - Shielded electrical wire for a secure connection (compatible security system wire recommended) - Two long 420mm steel shafts (adapters from existing printer bearing shafts may be used) - Essential parts such as Gotoh JCS-1 Jack Plate and Gotoh BB-02 battery box Furthermore, essential materials are needed to create this instrument: - A substantial quantity of ABS or PLA 3D printer plastic (~7-10 pounds), which could potentially lead to enhanced printing success - Electric pickups, preamps (e.g. CV210E model) - A compact audio switch and respective audio jack components (1/8" & 1/4") Additional required materials: * Custom components for tuning purposes like the CV200 preamp switch A set of open source free designs on Thingiverse supports continuous development, inviting creative interpretations of traditional cello designs. Every penny collected from sales of this product goes back to funding new projects in the same spirit: making world-class instrument parts widely available. Thanks for your engagement; enjoy building and exploring this electronic Cello project!
