This is a versatile focus mount designed for use on telescopes. It was developed as part of a school project where we created an affordable telescope using DIY store parts and 3D printed components. The focuser employs a large screw thread to generate the motion necessary to move the eyepiece into sharp focus, requiring rotation around its axis, with the printer's accuracy determining the alignment precision. As this was a basic demonstration of a low-cost telescope, I aimed for simplicity in design and functionality. For printing, a 0.2mm resolution worked well in PLA material. The parts were printed separately and assembled using M3 cap head screws and the large-scale screw thread. The adapter is designed to fit standard UK soil pipes with a diameter of 110mm. To secure the mount to a tube, it can be glued into place. After printing, it's essential to clean the screw threads with a file and work them in and out several times to ensure smooth operation. A file and fine-grade sandpaper are ideal tools for this process. Additionally, some sanding may be necessary to achieve a snug fit for a standard 1.25" eyepiece, requiring careful attention to detail to ensure smooth movement.
