It was too complex to draw and redraw and I didn't want to pay for temporary tattoos printed with it.

So I made a 3d Printed Stamp. I used PLA+ which isn't soft enough to work as a regular stamp on paper, but it works on skin. There is probably potential in other fillaments for proper stamps.

The easy way to do this was to use Cura's ability to import a PNG and to map transparency to elevation. So I created an image in Photoshop with the contact surfaces in black, and the background (that would hold it all together) in around 40% transparency black. Then I mirrored it, and imported it into Cura.

You'll have to play with the settings a little to get the elevation right, and the background may show up as a square around your stamp (just lower it through the build plate a little so it gets cut off).

Once it printed, I needed to attach a handle. A long-handled cattle-brand-style one could be fun someday but for now I wanted it to look like something from a bureaucracy.

I cut the grip out of a scrap piece of pine with the band saw, and rounded the edges with the belt sander. I stained and urethaned it (drive a screw into the bottom, so you have something to hold on to).

Then I needed a good way for it to attach securely to the stamp. I decided to screw it to a round piece of thin plywood, then JB Weld that to the back of the stamp. I traced a jar, cut the wood, and spray painted it blue. Then I screwed it to the handle. Sorry I don't have any photos of this step.

I chiseled out a small recess for the head of the screw in the back of the stamp, so the wood disk would lay flat on top. Then I applied JB Weld and used weights to keep it held together.

It works pretty well, my design was too thin in some areas so they didn't get transferred, but the overall design was there and my next draft will be improved. Go light with stamp ink as it will spread, and don't let them sit on anything you don't want ink on.
