3D printed Rack and Pinion Actuator
thingiverse
I believe that Rack and Pinion is an underutilized mechanism in today's 3D printing era. This simple rack and pinion actuator was designed using Fusion 360, consisting of four distinct parts: a base, two idler gears, a driven pinion gear, and a top plate. To assemble the actuator, you will need five M3x30 screws, two M8x25 screws, two 608 bearings, a NEMA17 stepper motor, and optionally an M3 grub screw (I found that the pinion fit snugly onto the stepper's shaft). If printed and assembled correctly, you should experience minimal backlash.
