For our innovative pick and place machine, we made the decision to reengineer the automatic SMD strip feeder. To achieve the optimal design, we experimented with various gear stages. The objective was to decrease the motor speed in order to obtain more power and reduce the necessary size. So, we put different worm and involute drives to the test. All gears were designed using the CAD software Solidworks, and all components were 3D printed with a high-quality Ultimaker. The gears have a dimension of 25mm and a module of 0.5.
