3D Printable Spring
thingiverse
For one of my projects, I needed a custom spring that couldn't be found anywhere else, so I decided to design one for 3D printing myself. At first, without the support pillars, the top inch of the spring came out perfectly, but the quality started to deteriorate as it got higher up. Each time the nozzle tried to print upwards, it would cause the spring to oscillate back and forth, resulting in significant loss of quality. To overcome this issue, I added six 0.3-inch pillars to the spring. These pillars increased the spring's rigidity, allowing the nozzle to lay down layers smoothly without causing the spring to rock back and forth. The pillars are easily removable with wire cutters, and the spring was printed in PETG.
