The Boot-strappable Open Laser Cutter project's initial release has been developed by me after several months of work. The goal is to create an open laser cutter design with a large cutting area (1m2) at 5%-10% the cost of commercial systems, using concepts from projects like Buildlog 2X Laser Cutter. The structural frame utilizes inexpensive aluminum extrusion and optics, while most custom parts are 3D printed ABS. These parts require approximately 10 hours of printing on a Makerbot or Reprap and have been designed to be useful for anyone creating large CNC systems - not just laser cutters. This includes components such as NEMA17 motor holders, idler brackets, pillow block bushing mounts, and more. Please note that this is an ongoing project in progress, with further details available on the Reprap builders blog: (part 2, most recent)http://builders.reprap.org/2011/09/boot-strappable-open-laser-cutter-part.html (part 1)http://builders.reprap.org/2011/05/boot-strappable-open-laser-cutter.html
