3D Printable Compass
thingiverse
I designed a simple, minimal compass that can be easily printed in 3D and assembled. The object was modeled from scratch using Autodesk Inventor with the goal of ease of assembly in mind, making it possible to simply snap two pieces together. The objectives of this project were centered around teaching architectural and engineering drawing, as well as introducing mathematical concepts through hands-on experience with this tool. Students of any skill level, as well as artists, are encouraged to use this educational resource, which does not require any prior preparation beyond having a pencil or pen ready. To effectively utilize the compass: - First, assemble the printed pieces by snapping them together. - Next, insert your pencil into the holder located on the arm of the holding mechanism. - Use the compass to draw perfect circles and arcs. Through the use of this educational tool, students will develop an increased understanding of 3D printing techniques as well as their own drawing and mathematical skills.
