3D Postcard Stereograph Viewer
thingiverse
This tiny contraption lets you view stereoscopic images on a compact printout the size of a postcard. The two image centers should be precisely 64mm apart for maximum impact - that's the ideal interpupillary distance this design caters to. My lenses were a decent 35.5mm in diameter. Just one area needs glue: the interface between the viewer and slider. Ensure the bottom edge of the viewer aligns with the curved shape of the slider (center it accurately) before using strong adhesive to bond them together. Assembly is as simple as that! Creating your own 3D images is incredibly easy and enjoyable. Snap a photo from a left eye's perspective, then do the same for the right. Put these side by side, print out in size small enough to fit within the focal range, slip inside this device, and relive old experiences like never before. I know what you're thinking - your life has just become twenty times more exciting! You're Welcome! Nov 10th, 2015 update: A special blinder clip was added for those whose eyes refuse to stop seeing two images instead of one despite carefully aligned lenses. Many people encounter this issue, and a card made long enough simply blocks the offending image from one eye. Enjoy the viewing experience! November 18th, 2015 update: A useful postcard mount that accommodates View-Master reels is available: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1140874 For those interested in acquiring lenses, a suitable option can be found here: http://www.surplusshed.com When creating for postcard viewing, a focal length around 75mm (+/-20mm) works well; however, View-Master viewing calls for shorter focus lengths like 45mm (akin to Google Cardboard lens specs). Single or dual convex lenses can function adequately in both scenarios. If you decide to print this device, please share your results - including the types of lenses used and effectiveness. Sept 26th, 2016 update: To showcase its capabilities further, a 3D printed postcard is provided here for viewing amusement: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1792658
