3d Pinting Nerd Spool Holder Conttest.
myminifactory
This is an entry into Joel's Spool Holder Design Contest. In February, I took the plunge and purchased a 3D printer (thanks Joel, Angus, and Tomas – you know who you are!). I've never designed anything before, so bear with me. All the spool holders for Joel's contest that I've seen so far are top-mount holders; this is the first bottom-mount one I've seen in the contest. It's not pretty, but it will work very well. I tried my hand at Tinkercad and after several drafts and mockups came up with this (this is version 9 for those of you playing the home game). It's a two-piece print: the frame and the slider. It's meant to hook on underneath the 1 by 2, pull forward, then down, and finally slide the looking piece in. It will probably hold a baby elephant if printed with PETG or ABS. It was printed with two shells and ten percent infill and has no problem holding up a kilogram spool of filament. I do want to thank Joel for giving people like me the desire to create something I never thought I would even be able to dream of just months ago.
