3D Paste Extruder Deltabot

This 3D printer was conceived within the context of an architectural design studio at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute led by Francis Bitonti and Xuedi Chen. We, a team of four - Amanda Turner, Jane Pao, Peini Chen, and Pu Pang - thoroughly examined the features of a Rostock Mini Pro deltabot kit, ultimately developing our own, more expansive printer equipped with a paste extruder. In addition to expanding upon the original design of the deltabot, our custom-made extruder is driven by an air compressor which pushes materials through a vessel positioned above the 3D printer down to the extruder nozzle. This adjustable end barb can be swapped out for different sizes and shapes. Furthermore, the print bed is easily detachable and replaceable. Firmware information can be accessed online. Assembly guidelines for mechanical parts are outlined below: Mechanical Components: - MDF sheeting (⅛” and ¼”) - Steel rods (¼” x 3 ft) - Steel rods (½” x 3 ft) - Acrylic platform (¼") - Machine screws (#4, ⅛") - Linear ball bearing (¼") - Timing belts with 2mm pitch (3 units) - Aluminum timing pulleys with a 5mm bore (36 tooth) - 6mm belt (3 units) - Fiberglass arms (½”) - Zip-ties The electronics section contains essential components: Electronics: - RAMPS 1.4 3D printer control kit - Arduino-Compatible Mega 2560 R3 - StepStick stepper motor driver with heat sinks (A4988, 5 units) for RepRap applications - Microswitches for end stops (3 units) - Electronic wire - Electrical tape - Dupont connector cables (female pin connectors - 2.54mm pitch, Sunkee, 100 units) - Housing for Dupont connector (4 plugs) A separate assembly is required for the extruder: Extruder components: - Air compressor with pressure regulator and on/off valve connected to the air supply system - Vinyl tubing (⅜” diameter) - Brass barb fittings - Threaded connections - 1.5 inches male, 2.0 inches female
