Meaning of Om Om is considered the ultimate fundamental sound. Long before physical creation came into existence, there existed a natural resonant energy that was identical to the sound of Om. We now know that one form of energy can be converted into another - electricity into sound, heat, electricity, and more. According to Einstein's famous equation E=mc2, everything is nothing but waves of pure energy. So, when "those who are in charge" decided to create this material universe, they were able to tap into the omnipresent humming sound vibration of Om to bring forth their creation. This exact same vibration persists all around us and even deep within our own being. The inner sound is called anata nadi (inner resonance), which we can pick up when we are tuned in to our authentic self. The OM mantra is mentioned extensively in the ancient texts on yoga. In many Upanishads, it's considered to embody everything that is manifest yet rooted in the unmanifest. The Mandukya Upanishad in particular focuses solely on exploring OM's depth. The Upanishads equate Om with Brahman - supreme consciousness.
