3D Necklace

3D Necklace

thingiverse

This is a simple necklace made not so simply in Openscad. A cylinder was moved along a cosine modulated gaussian curve, then rotated 8 times to create this odd bit of midnight madness (actually 6AM and I'm now dead tired from the experience). The difficulty was getting the memory usage of Openscad under 2 gigabytes (my old Windows 7 computer limit)!! Tried using two spheres in a zig zag hull. Nope!! Tried just using a hulled pair of spheres as a module, moving it along the line. No! Tried projecting a line of spheres to a surface and then extruding. No, none of those things worked. Finally used a moving cylinder, then made an STL of the compiled ~300 cylinders, then manipulated and combined the stl's as shown in Openscad. For some goofy reason, adding the ring for the necklace, caused Openscad to toss it's cookies... still again (open mesh, refused to load). So the small ring was added with tinkercad which labelled it a "Smashing Jarv." Ha, how appropriate!
