I'm still refining this project and would love your input on how to improve it. To make this fully functional, you'll need the following essential components: 1) Strong magnets salvaged from old hard drives or disks 2) A sturdy piece of string that can safely lift the magnet from its load 3) Non-magnetic separators taken from between hard drive plates This setup works similarly to a black sand recovery magnet, effectively separating magnetic materials from non-magnetic ones. I've also found it incredibly useful for picking up stray sewing pins and easily releasing them back onto a workbench or holder.
