3D Honeycomb Infill concept
thingiverse
We noticed the shortcomings of existing infill patterns and took matters into our own hands by designing a fresh solution. Drawing from the most efficient use of materials - the hexagonal structure - we adapted our design to mirror how bees create intersections between honeycomb layers in their nests. Our model exists purely as a concept, unsuitable for actual use beyond serving as an interesting display. I've also included a separate STl file showcasing a single comb cell to provide clarity on the removed shape. For further insight into Z-dependent structures and 3D printing techniques, you can consult this resource: http://engineerdog.com/2015/03/08/3d-printing-a-3d-honeycomb-infill-concept/. **Printing This Infill Pattern Requires Caution** Given its intricate nature, attempting to combine infill patterns may not yield the desired results. Printing with 100% infill is recommended; I found success using a concentric pattern and disabling retract settings.
