A novel 3D-printable hinge assembly features an integrated channel for routing fluids or wires, simplifying design and manufacture. However, sealing challenges arise as the hinge is 3D printed as a single unit, with O-ring installation impossible. To address this, options include printing non-compressed O-rings on the shaft that swell upon exposure to fluid (a hopeful solution), or incorporating a large draft angle to create a cone seal as halves separate under pressure, with one half "floating" for movement. Notably, R. King's suggestion of a large draft angle facilitates closer inlet and outlet placement for cable insertion in electrical conduit applications.
