3D Digitizer CMM Arm
thingiverse
This marks the start of a comprehensive design for a cutting-edge 3D digitizer arm. Every component can be manufactured using 3D printing technology. The software development is currently underway on an Arduino Uno, leveraging pin change interrupts and Four channels. A github project is available at https://github.com/Tek-User/CMM-Arm. The base of this design features a hollow structure to accommodate a heavy material for added stability. Lead shot was used as the filling agent, but any dense non-liquid substance will suffice. Sand might not provide sufficient density and could potentially be too fine, whereas other materials may be more suitable. Encoders from Omron E6B2-CWZ6C 2000P/R are utilized in this design, offering an impressive 8000 quadrature changes per rotation, resulting in a precise rotation resolution of 0.045 degrees. These encoders can be purchased on Ebay for approximately $25 each and four units are used in this particular setup. To ensure proper fitment, the holes for encoder axles require reaming to a diameter of 6mm.
