For those who may not know, the Antikythera Mechanism is an artifact found in 1900 on the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera, which was discovered inside a shipwreck. It is considered to be one of the oldest known analog computers and is believed to have been used for astronomical calculations and predictions. This model is an interpretation of that machine to be printed entirely in 3D. We want to make it clear that this model does not aim to be a faithful and historical reconstruction of the Antikythera Mechanism, but rather a project to share and disseminate knowledge about it. Update! * Added solar gears b1-b2-b3 with the solar axis, and internal axis (for lunar gears later). * Added bushings and sun pointer. * Updated 2 files: ANT_BOX_MIDDLE_FULL.stl and ANT_BOX_INSIDE_3.stl. Update 2! * Added gears C and L, the two first sets of gears that connect directly to the sun, both with their axes and bushings (which are equal but have their own file for organization). * Detected some small errors and there will be an update of at least 2 files soon. Update 3! * Added gears D1, D2 and M1, M2, M3. * M2 is one of the smallest gears; it would be better to print it with a nozzle of 0.2, but a slow printing could work with 0.4. * Fixed "ANT_BOX_INSIDE_3", "ANT_BOX_MIDDLE_FULL" and "ANTI_MIDDLE_CUT_1". * Sorry for the delay; we have been working a lot lately and do not have time to review all gears and their construction. Update 4! * Small changes and corrections for some files. * Grouping of some parts in one file for better organization. Update 5! * Added gear F, ready to upload lunar gear set. Update 6: * Added the lunar gear set (finally!) * This set includes the main lunar gear, lunar support, gears K1-K2, E1-E2-E5-E6, and lunar pointer (placed on smaller solar axis). * At this point you have almost all the mechanism finished and it's time to check that everything fits well. * The lunar gear is the most complex of the entire mechanism because it has to move together with 4 gears (B3, D2, M3, F2) and has its own internal gear system. * If the machine moves clumsily, you will have to reprint some gears several times until you get the right quality; some (the smallest ones) may need to be printed with a nozzle of 0.2. Update 7! * Fixed some files "ANTI_SOLO_SUPPORT_SIDES_FIX", "SUN_AXIS_01_02_FIX", "MOON_DIAL_FIX". * Added gears G1, G2, H1, H2 and I1. Update 8: * Added N1, N2, Q1, P1, P2, O1 and main crank. (And that's it; IT'S FINISHED!!!) Soon we will upload videos and documentation for the assembly process. Printer Settings * Printer Brand: RepRap * Printer: Monkus * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.15-0.2 * Infill: 30-50% * Notes: All files should be printed as they are, don't turn them upside down.
